Künker sale 293, lot 1284

This specimen was lot 1284 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €320 (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, SACHSEN-WEIMAR, HERZOGTUM, AB 1741 SACHSEN, Friedrich Wilhelm und Johann, 1573-1603. Reichstaler 1583, Saalfeld. Attraktives Exemplar, sehr schön +. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Lagerliste Fritz Rudolf Künker "Sonderangebot", Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 441. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weimar, Frederick William and John, 1573-1603, thaler of 1583 Saalfeld mint. Attractive example, very fine or bette.)"

This type is listed for 1582-86. The division of Erfurt in 1572 permanently splintered Ernestine Thuringia into fragments which were not reunited until the establishment of the Weimar Republic in 1920.
