Savoy 1580 scudo d'oro Fr-1039b
This specimen was lot 20389 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Savoy. Scudo d'Oro, 1580. Emanuele Filiberto. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details Gold Shield. Obverse: Crowned and garnished coat-of-arms; Reverse: Ornate cross, with F-E-R-T in angles. Essentially exhibiting no evidence of time in circulation, this pleasing piece does bear a hint of cleaning, accounting for the details designation. A great survivor from the final year of the reign of the duke. Ex: Stack's (1/2008) Lot # 3023. Ex: Elsen (9/2005) Lot # 857." This is the final date of a type also struck 1555-71.
