Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 57396

This specimen was lot 57396 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Sardinia. 20 Lire, 1831-P. Genoa Mint; mm: Anchor. Carlo Alberto. PCGS AU-58. Anchor." This type was struck at Turin and Genoa (shown here) 1831-49. While not rare, it is scarce, particularly in nice condition. A few twenty lire were struck for his predecessor Carlo Felice in 1831.

Recorded mintage: 16,189 at Turin plus 42,233 at Genoa.

Specification: 6.45 grams, 0.900 fine gold, .186 troy oz AGW, 21 mm diameter.
