This specimen was lot 33892 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,740. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Sardinia. Vittorio Amedeo III 1/2 Scudo 1792 MS63 NGC, Turin mint. SABAVD in legends. Glistening surfaces are complimented by closely cropped cabinet toning in certain areas of the recesses. The minimal distractions in the fields are counteracted by sharp devices." This denomination was struck simultaneously on two modules; one for the island of Sardinia (11.79 g, 0.895 fine) and this one, struck for use on the mainland. This is a common date of a type struck 1773-93 but is still quite scarce in choice condition. The island type (KM 71) is about triple the price. In 1799, king Carlo Emanuele IV was evicted by Napoleon and the region converted to the Ligurian Republic then annexed to France. Sardinia did not recover her independence until 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 17.58 g, 0.904 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 72 (formerly KM C60).
