Künker Auction 439, lot 2114

This specimen was lot 2114 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,201 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, SARDINIEN Victor Amadeus III., 1773-1796. Doppia 1787, Turin. GOLD. Fast vorzüglich, Exemplar der Mark & Lottie Salton Collection, Part II, Auktion Künker 362, Osnabrück 2022, Nr. 1204. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Amadeus III, 1773-96, doppia of 1787, Turin. About extremely fine.)"

The Duchy of Savoy was promoted to the Kingdom of Sardinia when the duke obtained that island from the Austrians in 1720. This type is listed in the SCWC for 1786-96. The doppia was originally a double ducat. Carlo Emanuele lost his throne in the Napoleonic invasions but his descendant became king of the unified Italy in 1860.
