This specimen was lot 74522 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAN MARINO. 5 Scudi, 1999-R. Rome Mint. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. Featuring Venus Pudica standing atop a clamshell, this stunning example offers a golden-orange hue to the color imparted unto the devices, with intense mirroring occurring in the fields." The Venus Pudica is better known as Botticelli's Birth of Venus.
