This specimen was lot 10693 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $499. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAN MARINO. 5 Lire, 1898-R. NGC MS-62. Toned. From the Demarete Collection." This type was struck for the tiny republic of San Marino in 1898. The mintage is low but many were saved as souvenirs so the type is available in lightly circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: 18,000.
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver.
