This specimen was lot 72263 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Constitution Proclamation Silver Medal, 1843. PCGS EF-40. Obverse: Liberty seated right, holding spear; fasces behind; Reverse: Legend in four lines, wreath around. Somewhat worn but free from damage or cleaning, and offering an elegant deep gray tone. From the David Sterling Collection." We have made little attempt to include medals on this site but we have featured this one as it is the direct antecedent of the copper centavo of 1863.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: Grove-85A; Fonrobert-6645.
