This specimen was lot 3296 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €140 (about US$198 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Sigismund III. von Schrattenbach, 1753-1771. Konv.-Taler 1771. Sehr schön. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Sigismund III von Schrattenbach, 1753-71, convention thaler of 1771. Very fine.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. This type was struck 1771 only and is common. The SCWC crosses this to Dav-1261B but it is closer to Dav-1259.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, 42 mm diameter, this specimen 27,81 g.
