This specimen was part of lot 3053 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), which sold for €240 (about US$310 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Franz Anton von Harrach, 1709-1727. 4 Kreuzer (Batzen) 4 Kreuzer (Reichsbatzen) 1718, 1719, 1720, 1721, 1722, 1723, 1724, 1725, 1726, 1727. Ten pieces, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1718-27 and has a low catalog value. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver or billon.

Catalog reference: KM 315, Probszt 2045; Zöttl 2459.
