Salzburg 1719 4 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 45705 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Salzburg. 4 Kreuzer, 1719. Salzburg Mint. Franz Anton. PCGS MS-65." The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1718-27 and has a low catalog value. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
