This specimen was lot 33323 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Austria: Salzburg. Johann Ernst gold 1/2 Ducat 1705 MS63 NGC, Salzburg mint, Visually quite pleasing with reflective surfaces and honey gold color." The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type is noted for 1705 and 1707 and is the most affordable half ducat of the seventeenth century from this state.
