Salzburg 1648 2 ducat Fr-754
This specimen was lot 1285 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,229 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SAINT EMPIRE, SALZBOURG, Archevêché, Paris von Lodron (1619-1653), AV double ducat, 1648. Module réduit (24mm). D/ Armes de l'archevêque. R/ Saint Rupert assis de f., ten. une crosse et un saloir. Très rare Griffes au droit et éraflure sur la tranche. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, archbishopric of Salzburg, Paris of Lodron, 1619-53, gold double ducat of 1648, small size. Obverse: arms of the archbishop; reverse: St. Rupert seated, facing, holding a cross and a crozier. Very rare, scratches on the obverse. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
Archbishop Paris issued a plethora of gold coins during his long tenure, Fr-726 thru -762 being noted. This double ducat struck 1624-48 is expensive.
