Sincona sale 76, lot 1536

This specimen was lot 1536 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$546 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Salzburg, Erzbistum. Leonhard von Keutschach, 1495-1519. Batzen 1500, Salzburg. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS62. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Leonhard von Keutschach, 1495-1519, batzen of 1500, Salzburg mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"

The batzen, a denomination better known in Switzerland, was traditionally worth four kreuzer. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, one thaler was sixty kreuzer.
