Russia 1991 25 rubles KM-Y286
This specimen was part of lot 32286 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia: U.S.S.R. 3-Piece Certified gold Bolshoi Ballet Proof Set 1991-(L) NGC, 1) 25 Roubles - PR68 Ultra Cameo, KM-Y286a; 2) 50 Roubles - PR69 Ultra Cameo, KM-Y287a; 3) 100 Roubles - PR68 Ultra Cameo, KM-Y288a. St. Petersburg mint. All are fully bright, and display golden color, with no apparent flaws. AGW 0.85 oz." The mint sets (KM 286/287/288) were made in 14 karat gold while the proof sets (shown here) were 0.999 fine.
Recorded mintage: 5,000 in 14 karat gold (KM 286) plus 1,500 proofs.
