SB1123-74503r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74503 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 20 Kopeks, 1970. Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Mint. PCGS MS-64. This pleasing near-Gem example of an elusive SCARCE date, the present example delivers an intense visual appeal, with no signs of perceptible fault or flaw present." The mintages of this type produced 1961-91 are not recorded but most dates are common. The years 1965-76 must have seen a cutback in production as all those dates are scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.

Specification: 3.3 g. copper-nickel-zinc, 22 mm diameter

Catalog reference: KM-Y132; Fedorin-120.
