Russia 1904-SP AP 5 kopeks
This specimen was lot 528 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 75,000 CHF (about US$100,995 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 5 Kopecks 1904, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB AR. Proof. Excessively rare, probably only 10 pieces struck. Unknown to Petrov. Unknown to Ilyin. NGC PF64+ CAMEO. Cabinet piece. From the Soedermann Collection, auction SINCONA 24, Zürich, October 2016, lot 1051 (price realized: CHF 110,000). With the expertise by the Society of Friends to the State Historical Museum, signed by I.V. Shiryakov. According to the expertise the coin is "of exceptionally great interest as numismatic monument"."
This type was struck 1867-93, 1897-1914. Most dates are common; we don't know why only nine pieces were made of this date.
