Russia 1903-SP kopek
This specimen was lot 75560 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1903-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas II. PCGS MS-65 Brown. This handsome Gem example delivers much richness, with a soft chocolate brown appeal and strong eye appeal throughout." This type is listed for 1867-71, 1876-1914. The nineteenth century dates are scarce in nice condition but the later dates are common with, of course, the exception of the proofs. In 1914, Russia plunged into World War One, which conflict would lead to the destruction of the regime.
