This specimen was lot 73132 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopeks, 1902-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas II. NGC PROOF-64 Red Brown. A VERY RARE proof issue, this shimmering near-Gem dazzles with eye with a seemingly electrified orange-red nature and slight shades of brown that have taken on a cobalt feel." This type is listed for 1867-1914. The nineteenth century dates are scarce in nice condition but the later dates are common with, of course, the exception of the proofs.
Recorded mintage: 10,000,000, a very scarce date of an otherwise common type.
Specification: 6.6 g, copper.
