This specimen was lot 21341 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Kopek, 1848-MW. Warsaw Mint. PCGS MS-62 BN Secure Holder. A SCARCE one-year issue with a reported mintage of 31,000 pieces. Issued during the time when the Ruble to Pood ratio was 16:1. Sharply struck with clear definition of the intricate details with lovely chocolate patina in the open fields which deepens to an attractive mahogany in the peripheries and amongst the devices. Sure to excite even the most advanced of collectors." The type was struck 1848 at Warsaw (shown here), 1839-47 at St. Petersburg (KM C145.4), 1840-43 at Izhora (KM C145.3) and 1840-44 at Ekaterinburg (KM C145.1). The SCWC does not price this type in uncirculated but this specimen realized thirteen times the catalog value in Extremely Fine.
