Russia 1782-SP 10 rubles Fr-129b
This specimen was lot 623 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$28,541 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Katharina II. 1762-1796. 10 Rubel 1782, St. Petersburg. Gekröntes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz und umgelegtem Mantel//Vier gekrönte Wappenschilde ins Kreuz gestellt, in der Mitte Adlerschild, in den Winkeln die geteilte Jahreszahl 1 - 7 / 8 - 2. GOLD. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Nur 4.000 Exemplare geprägt. Min. justiert, vorzüglich. (empire of Russia, Catherine II, 1762-96, ten rubles f 1782, St. Petersburg mint. Obverse: crowned, laureate and mantled bust right; reverse: four crowned arms arranged in a cross around an eagle shield, the date in the corners. Very rare, especially in this quality, only 4,000 pieces struck, minor adjustment marks, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1777-82 and superseded the ten rubles of the Czarina Elizabeth which were 16.59 grams.
