Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 1525

This specimen was lot 1525 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,671.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Ruble, 1743-MMA. Elizabeth I (1741-61). NGC AU-53. Natural planchet clip. Struck on a large planchet. Lustrous and attractive." This type was issued from St. Petersburg and Moscow (shown here) 1741-61. Mintages were moderate but the type is rare today. A poltina was half a ruble.
