This specimen was lot 24726 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1742-MMA. Elizabeth (1741-61). PCGS AU-50 Secure Holder. Bold strike, lovely old cabinet tone and quite attractive." The coinage of Russia of the eighteenth century is a confusing and fascinating subject. This type, issued 1742 from St. Petersburg and 1742-51 from Moscow, is fairly common. The rubles of Peter II were about 28 grams but this type seems to be only 26 grams.
Recorded mintage: 289,000, the key date.
Specification: 25.85 g, .802 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM C19.1, Dav-1678.
