from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 24718
Russia SB118-24718r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24718 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Poltina (1/2 Ruble), 1729. Peter II (1727-30). PCGS Genuine--Repaired, VF Details Secure Holder. VERY SCARCE. Mount mark at 12 o'clock, lightly toned and quite respectable." The coinage of Russia of the eighteenth century is a confusing and fascinating subject. This poltina, or half ruble, was struck 1727-29 and is scarce but not rare like previous issues.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.22 g, 0.729 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 180.
