This specimen was lot 5304 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN. ZARIN KATHARINA I., 1725-1727. Ein Rubel der Zarin Katharina I. aus St. Petersburg. Rubel 1727 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1726 geändert), St. Petersburg. RR Schön-sehr schön. Laut Il'in - 25 Rubel. Laut Petrov - 40 Rubel. (Russia, empress Catherine I, 1725-27, ruble of 1727, St. Petersburg mit, 7/6 overdate. Rare, fine to very fine.)" This type was struck 1727 only. It is separated from Dav-1665 by the details of the eagle's tail feathers on the reverse, earning this issue the nickname "crow's tail".
