This specimen was lot 31343 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peter I (the Great) Novodel Grivennik (10 Kopecks) 1701 AU58 NGC, Kadashevsky mint, A bit softly struck in the central areas, with luster beneath gray patina and only a few light marks. Rare." Altho Russia was nominally on a decimal system, this coin being a tenth of a ruble or ten kopeks, we may be sure that the peasants who used this coin called it a grivennik. This rare type of 1701-02 is probably available only as a novodel or restrike.
