This specimen was lot 55745 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Rostock. 1/16 Taler, 1630. PCGS AU-58. From the Augustana Collection." The city of Rostock was under the sovereignty of the dukes of Mecklenburg but claimed the mint right as a member of the Hanseatic League. Her issues in the seventeenth century are sparse and expensive. This type was struck 1620-31 and has a moderate catalog value altho this example sold for only a quarter of that. The SCWC calls it a duttchen, a doppelschilling or a quarter ortsthaler. The griffin was the badge of the city.
