This specimen was lot 75620 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "ROMANIA. 500 Lire, 1945. Bucharest Mint. Mihai I. NGC MS-64." This one year type superseded a silver coin struck in 1944 (KM 65). It was superseded by an aluminum coin (KM 68) as it became obvious that the reparations demanded by the USSR would make even a brass coin a luxury. Patterns exist in nickel-plated brass (KM Pn281). King Mihai was forced to abdicate in 1947 and died in 2017, aged 96.
Recorded mintage: 3,422,000.
Specifications: 10 g, nickel brass, 30 mm diameter, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM-67.
