This specimen was lot 30507 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carol II gold 20 Lei 1940 MS61 NGC, Bucharest mint. A popular and very scarce type that was struck for the 10th anniversary of Carol II's reign. Typically marked for the issue with moderate surface reflectivity remaining in the fields." This type is not listed in the regular SCWC. It was likely a presentation piece. It is difficult to imagine gold coins circulating in post-World War One Romania.
