This specimen was lot 75623 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "ROMANIA. 50 Lei, 1937. Bucharest Mint. Carol II. NGC MS-62. Entirely brilliant with few marks for the grade." This type was struck 1937-38 in substantial numbers and is common in circulated condition. It was demonetized in 1941, with many melted down for military uses. Romania fell into the Nazi orbit during World War Two and the monarchy was abolished shortly thereafter.
