This specimen was lot 1940 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €100 (about US$138 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ROUMANIE, Carol II (1930-1940), AR 250 lei, 1935. Nettoyé. Petits coups. Très Beau. (Romania, Carol II, 1930-40, silver 250 lei of 1935. Cleaned, minor nicks, Very Fine.)"
The SCWC notes, "Bank reports show that between 1937-39 4,490,670 pieces were withdrawn and remelted." The survivors are now scarce. Romania fell into the Nazi orbit during World War Two and the monarchy was abolished shortly thereafter.
Recorded mintage: 4,500,000.
Specification: 13.5 g, 0.750 fine silver, 29 mm diameter, decorated edge.
