This specimen was lot 30496 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carol I 2 Lei 1881-V MS64 NGC, Vienna mint. A phenomenal specimen with velvety surfaces in a desirable shade of silvery-gray with lightly-dappled champagne tone throughout. The fully-rendered devices are razor-sharp and are nicely accented by an abundance of original mint bloom. A scarce one-year type in an almost unbeatable grade for the issue." This one year type is scarce and is the only two lei struck between 1876 and 1894.

Recorded mintage: 1,150,000.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, .268 troy oz ASW.
