Rohilkhand AH 1188(15) rupee
This specimen was lot 2604 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "ROHILKHAND: Muhib-ud-Daula, 1770-1774, AR rupee, Bisauli, AH1188 year 15, in the name of Shah Alam II, last year of Rohilkhand possession of Bisauli, passed to Awadh later in AH1188 (1774), XF, R." Rohilkhand was an Indian state between Nepal and Awadh. Its capital in Mughal times was Bareilly and the Mughal Emperor maintained a mint there. The Nawab of Awadh repelled Maratha invaders from Rohilkhand in 1773 and was incensed when Hafiz Rahmat Khan refused payment for his help. The Nawab plundered and annexed the state but was forced to surrender it to the British in 1801. The SCWC mentions this type for years 1182/10 and 1186/14.
