This specimen was lot 2637 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 24,000 CHF (about US$31,714 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ, Rheinau, Abtei Gerold von Zurlauben, 1697-1735. Doppeldukat 1723, Auf das goldene Priesterjubiläum des Abtes Gerold II. Zurlauben. Stifts- und Familienwappen. Rv. Der stehende heilige Fintan von vorn. Von grösster Seltenheit. Gutes vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion LHS Numismatik 98, Zürich, Oktober 2006, Los 147. (Switzerland, abbey of Rheinau, Gerald of Zurlauben, 1697-1735, double ducat of 1723, on the golden anniversary of the abbot's ordination, Zurlauben mint. Obverse: abbey and family arms; reverse: St. Fintan stands, facing. Of the highest rarity, Good extremely fine.)"
The abbey of Rheinau lies, as its name implies, on the river Rhine in the canton of Zurich near Schaffhausen. Coinage was sporadic and ceased after 1723. This double ducat, issued of the abbot's birthday, features St. Fintan on the reverse. Another double ducat (KM 7), shows the abbot's bust.
