This specimen was lot 30295 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $4,112.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Rheinau. Gerold II von Zurlauben gold Ducat 1723, MS61 NGC. Obv. Triple helmeted coat of arms with the date below. Rev. St. Fintan standing. This coin was issued to celebrate the 74th birthday, and 27th year of reign, of the Abbott. Well-struck, with full mint brilliance and a slightly wavy flan. Very scarce. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman / B.G. Johnson." The abbey of Rheinau lies, as its name implies, on the river Rhine in the canton of Zurich near Schaffhausen. Coinage was sporadic and ceased after 1723.
