Ravensberg 1609 1/24 thaler
This specimen was lot 77290 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Ravensburg. 1/24 Taler, 1609. Johann Wilhelm. PCGS MS-63. From the G. L. Hermann Collection." This obscure type was struck 1592-1609 in many varieties. The county of Ravensberg was long a part of the dominion of the duke of Berg. When that dynasty lapsed in 1609, both Pfalz and Brandenburg claimed it and fought over it until it was partitioned by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Altho the count Palatine held Ravensberg 1623-47, he was forced to turn it over to Brandenburg by the terms of the treaty.
