Sincona sale 69, lot 143

This specimen was lot 143 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 7,500 CHF (about US$9,954 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Brandenburg / Prussia. Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. Krone 1864 A, Berlin. Sehr selten. Nur 792 Exemplare geprägt. NGC MS61. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, krone of 1864, Berlin mint. Very rare. Only 792 pieces struck.)"

This type was minted in Berlin 1861-70 in substantial numbers but is now rare. Many may have been melted to strike gold ten and twenty mark after the reform of 1871.
