This specimen was lot 1840 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,340 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Doppelter Friedrichs d'or 1830, A. GOLD. Vorzüglich +. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, double frederick d'or of 1830, Berlin mint. Extremely fine or better.)"
This denomination was introduced as a double wilhelm d'or in 1737 during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I (r. 1713-40) but continued as a double friedrichs d'or during the rule of Frederick the Great (r. 1740-86). This type was issued 1825-32, 1836-40 and was worth ten thalers. The denomination was retired in 1855.
