Prussia 1820-A thaler Dav-759
This specimen was lot 3990 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$8,350 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Taler 1820, A. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Scharf ausgeprägt, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, thaler of 1820, very scarce in this quality, sharply struck, about uncirculated.)"
This type was issued 1816-22 at Berlin (shown here) and Düsseldorf and is common in worn condition. It was not affected by the reform of 1821. Thalers were the only coins struck in Prussia in 1820.
