The first specimen was lot 43298 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 2-1/2 Escudos, 1948. Lisbon Mint. PCGS MS-66." This type was struck 1932-33, 1937, 1940-48 and 1951. The handsome caravel design was also used on five and ten escudos coins. When the issue of 2½ escudos resumed in 1963, it was a copper-nickel coin.

Recorded mintage: 1,814,000, a better date.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.650 fine silver, .146 troy oz ASW, 20.4 mm diameter.
