The specimen shown is from a type struck for Portugal 1932-33, 1937, 1940-48 and 1951. The handsome caravel was also used on five and ten escudos coins. When the issue of 2½ escudos resumed in 1963, it was a copper-nickel coin.
Recorded mintage: 3,846,945, a rather common date.
Specification: 3.5 g, .650 fine silver, .073 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 20.5 mm diameter.
