Sincona sale 59, lot 1877

This specimen was lot 1877 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$908 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL | Königreich, Luis I. 1861-1889. 10000 Reis 1884, Lissabon. Vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (kingdom of Portugal, Louis I, 1861-89, 10,000 réis of 1884. Lisbon mint. Extremely fine, Small scratches.)"

This type was struck in Lisbon 1878-89 and is one of the more common of Portuguese gold coins. Gold 2000 and 5000 réis bearing this portrait also exist along with a series of silver issues.

Recorded mintage: 13,000.

Specification: 17.73 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 17.71 g.
