This type was struck in Lisbon 1867-68, 1871-79. King Luis ruled 1861-1889 and in 1882 reduced the weight of the copper five, ten and twenty reis. This five réis piece is common among the eleven dates. Three, ten and twenty réis were also struck in copper.

Recorded mintage: 1,080,000.

Specification: 6.3 g, bronze, 27 mm diameter, plain edge.
