This specimen was lot 75612 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 10 Reis, 1868. Luis I. PCGS MS-63 Brown. Mahogany-brown surfaces with hints of bluish tone about the peripheries." This is a scarce date of a type struck 1867-68 and 1870-74. This example realized multiples of the catalog value. King Luis ruled 1861-1889 and in 1882 reduced the weight of the copper five, ten and twenty reis.
