This specimen was lot 49198 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 800 Reis (1/2 Escudo), 1780. Lisbon Mint. Maria I & Pedro III. NGC MS-63." This denomination is often catalogued as a half escudo but was actually an 800 réis. This type was struck 1777-78, 1780 and 1784 only and is quite scarce despite the modest catalog value.

Specification: 1.79 g, 0.917 fine gold, 16 mm diameter.
