This specimen is lot 653 in UBS sale 84 (Basel, January 2010). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PORTUGAL (Münzstätte Lissabon). Pedro II. 1667-1706. Principe Regente 1667-1683. Moeda 1678. Gekröntes Wappen zwischen Wertangabe und Kleeblättern. Rv. Kreuz von Jerusalem, in den Winkeln Blüten. Sehr selten. Rdf. und kl. Kr. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön" (Portugal, Lisbon mint, Pedro II, 1667-1706 (Prince Regent 1667-83), gold moidore of 1678. Obv: crowned arms between denomination and small flowers. Rev: Jerusalem cross with four rosettes. Very rare, very fine to good very fine).
This type was struck 1677-82 and is among the first milled coinage of Portugal. Similar coins were struck in Brazil after 1695 but bear mintmarks instead of rosettes next to the Maltese cross.
