Pomerania 1806 3 pfenninge KM-424
This specimen was lot 187 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,373 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POMMERN, HERZOGTUM UNTER SCHWEDEN, Gustav IV. Adolf, 1792-1809. Ku.-3 Pfennig (Witten) 1806, Stralsund. Mit K · SCHWED · POM · LANDES M · auf der Vorderseite. Sehr seltene Variante. Sehr schön. Exemplar aus der Sammlung Sven Svensson. (Germany, duchy of Pomerania, under Swedish rule, Gustav IV Adolf, 1792-1809, copper three pfennig or witten of 1806, Stralsund mint, with "K · SCHWED · POM · LANDES M ·" on the obverse. Very rare variety, very fine.)"
This witten is a variant of the normal type (KM 422) struck 1776, 1792, 1806 and 1808. KM 422 has the obverse legend abbreviated "K·S·P·L·M·", meaning "Königlich Schwedisch-Pommersche Land-Münze". The griffin on the obverse was the badge of the native dukes, whose line fell extinct in 1637. Sweden ceded her last holdings in Pomerania to Prussia at the Congress of Vienna in 1815.
