Pomerania 1667 2 schilling
This specimen was lot 11315 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €85 (about US$89). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/24 Taler (Doppeltschilling), 1667. Pommern-Stettin. Karl XI. NGC VF-30. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1662 and 1666-70. We assume the monogram "DS" on the reverse means "Doppel Schilling". On the lapse of the native dynasty in 1637, the duchy of Pomerania was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 1.47 g, silver, this specimen 1.52 g.
