Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 49418
SB126-49418r.jpg

This specimen was lot 49418 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Pomerania. 1/24 Taler (Doppelschilling), 1660. Karl X Gustav. NGC AU-55. Ex: Eric P. Newman. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green." This type was struck 1656-60. We assume the monogram "DS" on the reverse means "Doppel Schilling". On the lapse of the native dynasty in 1637, the duchy of Pomerania was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.25 g, silver, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 224, AAJ-43.
