(Germany, duchy of Pomerania-Wolgast, Philip Julius, 1592-1625, wide thaler, Fransburg mint, issued on the death of the duke. Rare, mount mark, tooled, "RK" punched on the revese, otherwise very fine. This thaler was minted by his successor, Bogislaw XIV, and distributed at the duke's funeral to keep his name remembered.)"
On the lapse of the dynasty in 1625, the duchy was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.65 g, silver, 49 mm diameter.
